Shortly after Independence Day, a good samaritan brought an injured cat to Humane Animal Rescue after reporting a serious leg injury. Upon closer inspection, HAR’s clinic realized that firecrackers seemed to have been tied to her front left paw with rubber bands. “There wasn’t really any paw left. What was still there was barely hanging on by the rubber bands,” said Jamie Wilson, Director of Medical Business. “Her bone was exposed, and she was severely dehydrated. I had to stop her from eating & drinking too quickly so she wouldn’t get sick.”
Due to the extent of the injury and infection to the cat's wound, who received the name Pickles, Humane Animal Rescue’s medical team decided that the best course of action was to amputate the leg in its entirety.
